An interfaith vigil was held on Sunday 31st of July at the Piazza outside Westminster Cathedral for father Jacques Hamel and all the victims of recent terror attacks.
The vigil was organised jointly by Faiths Forum for London and Westminster cathedral Interfaith Group. Representatives of Jewish, Muslim, Christian and other faiths attended the vigil.
Mehri Niknam attended the vigil on behalf of the Foundation. She spoke with Father Martin Plankett, Chaplin of the Cathedral and expressed the Foundation’s horror and revulsion at the murder of Father Hamel. She expressed the foundation’s condolences and added that the act committed by those perpetrators did not bear any relation to the understanding of Islam or the opinion of the Muslim community in this country. Father Plankett agreed that the best way forward is through community cohesion and to be united against the abuse and misuse of our belief.
