As part of its Annual University Seminars, the Foundation held a successful seminar on “Hate Crime: Its Causes and How to Address them” in partnership with the Islamic and Jewish societies at university of York.
The speakers and participants discussed their personal experiences. They agreed that the best way to combat hate crime is to educate the public particularly about Islam and Muslims. They also discussed the issue of Israel-Palestine and to what extent it contributes to Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. They came to the understanding that perhaps the best way to go forward is not through binary debates and group opposition, but honest and constructive discussions in a safe forum. The Foundation offered to continue to assist in creating such forums for discussions.
The cooperation between the Foundation and Isoc and Jsoc at York is ongoing.
