The Joseph Interfaith Foundation’s Council of Imams an Rabbis, the only officially recognised board of senior imams and rabbis of major mosques and synagogues in London, held a seminar for Orthodox rabbis at St John’s Wood Orthodox synagogue. This was the first time that such a group of senior imams held a project with senior Orthodox rabbis at a major Orthodox synagogue.
This ground-breaking seminar, held during the National Interfaith Week, is part of the on-going projects of the Council of Imams and Rabbis of the Foundation.
The introduction to Islam was given by the senior imam of East London mosque and there followed a long Q & A session with the panel consisting of the senior imam of the Central Mosque and Convenor of Sharia Council. The seminar was Chaired by Dayan Binstock, senior rabbi of St John’s Wood Orthodox synagogue who, as well as all the imams, are members of the Council of Imams and Rabbis.
The seminar was well attended and very positively productive. The Council was invited to hold further such seminars for the Orthodox synagogues and also to coordinate – through the Joseph Interfaith Foundation – on future co-operations on matters of joint interest between the Jewish and Muslim communities.
